Book Ratings

So, I thought I would do a short post on....book ratings! Here I have what each star rating means on two sites: Amazon.com and Goodreads. (Amazon's star ratings are also for other things, though, of course.)

Amazon.com:

1 star: I hate it
2 stars: I don't like it
3 stars: It's okay
4 stars: I like it
5 stars: I love it

Goodreads:

1 star: I don't like it
2 stars: It's okay
3 stars: I like it
4 stars: I really like it
5 stars: It's amazing

Which do you agree with? I'm not sure which one I like better. Amazon.com's seems pretty good! But then, I kind of like Goodreads's too. Hmm... I'll have to decide. ;) Meanwhile...

Which one will you go with?

Update of Sorts (It's Been a While)

Hey, guys! So, I know it's been a while since I last posted, and I'm sorry! I've been having a bit of a blank recently on what to post on... :) BUT I do have a few thoughts (any ideas from you guys on a post you'd like me to do? Let me know in the comments!), and I have some fun news to share with you all!

How pretty is this poster!?
I AM GOING TO SEE THE NEW CINDRELLA TOMORROW!!!! I am SO very excited, because it looks like it's going to be so great, and then there's Frozen Fever to look forward to, with adorable Olaf and mini...marshmellows?, and Oaken and all of the other main characters are back! Cinderella also looks quite spectacular - the acting, the costumes, and so much more! Plus, I am also excited because we're going to my favorite theater! Does that sound weird at all? Haha - oh, well! ;)

Other bookish news:

I just finished R.M. Ballantyne's The Island Queen last night. It was a very fun book, and I enjoyed it! There were fun characters (especially Otto, one of the castaways, who made me laugh), and it was a pretty quick read because it kept me interested. I was smiling through almost a whole chapter! Anyways, I did enjoy it, but I thought the ending could've been better. Overall, however, it's recommended!

I've officially started reading the epic by Homer, The Iliad, today for school. So far...it's pretty boring and...strange. I think I'll be happy when I have it finished!

Randomness:

I have a comforter project in Home Ec. to do this week! My mom and I went to Hancock's and got fabric and other materials for it on Friday, so I'll try to start soon. I might post after I've finished it on how it goes (with pictures)! It's going to be a small comforter, so I am going to give it to my one-year-old niece if it turns out all right. :)

That's all I have for an update now, but do expect another post from me soon!

Are you going to see Cinderella? Have you read The Island Queen, or any other book by Ballantyne? What books have you been reading?

A Post of Randomness

...

Julia Ryan from Writing for His Glory inspired me to write up a post of random facts...

Here's the post that she did! Check it out!

Ready for some randomness?

Good. ;)

Here we go!

1. I enjoy a good smoothie! Fruit + fruit + other stuff = healthy and so good! ;)
2. When Calls the Heart is coming back on April 4th...and I'M EXCITED!
3. I love books.
4. I really like coffee (blended, lattes, cappuccinos, etc.), but I really, really don't like coffee made at home with a coffee pot! A blender and some ice cream is a different story, though... ;)
5. I think Ben Carson would make a fantastic president!
6. I thought I would really dislike God's Smuggler when I read it for the first time last year - but I ended up loving it so much! It was so amazing and inspiring.
7. I'm enjoying math (Algebra I)!
8. I love adventure!
9. I love music!
10. I've read Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion by Jane Austen.
11. I just ordered one of The Afters' latest albums - Life is Beautiful! (Perhaps a post later including reviews of several CDs!)
12. Their song 'Moments Like This' is amazing! (And is one of the reasons I'm buying their album)
13. Heartland - a Canadian show that I watch - just got renewed for a 9th season today!
14. I recently watched The Giver and I really enjoyed it. (Brenton Thwaites is an amazing actor!)
15. I'm really looking forward to whenever John Horn publishes another novel! (Hopefully soon!)
16. I played Pictionary for (basically) the first time on Sunday - and liked it! (I've played a game before that included Pictionary, but was not Pictionary itself.)
17. One of my favorite people in the Bible is Queen Esther.
18. I really want to travel one day soon! To Norway, England, Paris, Italy, Alaska, Ireland, Scotland, Wales...
19. My favorite history to read/learn about is from a little before the Victorian era to World War II.
20. I enjoy hiking and rock climbing with my family and my older brother (who's a fantastic rock-climber!! And he has taught me everything I know.)! :)
21. I am so thankful to be a part of my wonderful family!
22. My dog, Azaliah, is adorable and the best!
23. I've watched all of the Love Comes Softly movies - and am re-watching them! (Two I really like would be #2 and #6 - Love's Enduring Promise and Love's Unfolding Dream!)
24. I used to take ballet and singing.
25. I've ridden the #1 Shock-Ride in America at Silverwood - The Aftershock! And it was awesome. :)

What are a few random facts about you?? Do you like smoothies or coffee? Have you watched When Calls the Heart, Heartland, or The Giver?

Tagged!

Thank you so much to Mikayla H. from The Bubblegum Ballerina for tagging me for the "You Are Amazing and So is Your Blog" award!

All righty - let's get started with Mikayla's questions for me!

Who is your favorite book character? (it can be your own or someone else's)
Oh... Good question! I suppose I'll say Lawrence Stoning from Brothers at Arms by John Horn. He's a really great character! And the book is also really great... ;)

Who is your favorite artist? (Musician...?)
I couldn't really choose! I enjoy a wide range of bands! I'll list a few: Francesca Battistelli, for KING & COUNTRY, Danny Gokey, Jeremy Camp, Citizen Way, The Afters, Tenth Avenue North, Kari Jobe, Owl City - need I go on? ;)

(That ended up being more than a 'few,' but...)

Have you ever played laser tag before? If so, what did you think of it?

I have, actually! Twice now. I think it's kind of fun - sneaking around in the dark like you're going to war... ;)

Haha! Okay, not really.

A girl can imagine...

Do you prefer writing or reading?
Well, I have a novel I've been planning to write (and rewriting and restarting!) for a few years now, so hopefully one day I'll finish that! But, for now, I am really preferring reading.

I'm currently reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (and am planning on finishing it this year), and You Have a Brain: A Teen's Guide to T.H.I.N.K. B.I.G. by Ben Carson. Both are good!

(I'm also trying to finish The Cat of Bubastes by G.A. Henty...)

What is your favorite subject in school?
Surprisingly, I'm going to say math! I've been enjoying Algebra I of late!

This was fun!

I am nominating Miss Julia Ryan of Writing for His Glory!

Here are my questions:

Do you have a favorite movie, movie series, or TV show?
What is your favorite book genre? Do you ever read fantasy or adventure?
What music do you most enjoy listening to? What is your favorite band?
Have you ever seen 'We Bought a Zoo'? If so, did you like it?
Have you read any books by Alicia A. Willis?

Broken Lens Productions - They're Back!

Hey, all! I thought I'd let everyone know that one of my favorite bloggers/YouTube video-makers, Braden Russell, is finally back (to YouTube, that is)! A few days ago, he posted his newest video: How To Woo a Father. And I thought I'd share!

Enjoy.

~Micaiah~

P.S. Look out for both a Pride and Prejudice (2005) and Princess Bride quote! (They're both at the end)
